A fascinating sport is benchrest shooting, which belongs to the subspecies of shooting competitions. Men, women and young people aged from 12 to 21 can demonstrate their skill in hitting artificial targets with smoothbore weapons. The discipline consists of 4 specific categories: trench stand, duplicate shooting, round stand, automatic trench.
Mandatory rules
There is a list of rules that must be followed by every competitor in the shooting competitions, which are described in more detail below:
Safety.
Handling the firearm requires special care, both when in use and when carrying it. The shotgun must be kept in a closed case and with the trigger in the safety position. All competitors and other persons in the vicinity of the shooting line must wear non-audio transmitting headphones or earmuffs. Tight-fitting goggles with unbreakable glasses must be worn to protect the eyes.
Highlights
The sporting equipment must be loaded with cartridges in the designated place and strictly after the referee's “start” command. A competitor may not leave the shooting area until the personnel in charge has checked that there are no cartridge cases or loaded cartridges in the chamber. Aiming is permitted only towards the target. Firing and test shots are fired after the Chief Range Officer's signal. At the “stop” command, the competitor will immediately stop firing and place the firearm in a safe position with the muzzle up.
Equipment and ammunition requirements.
The competitors' clothing and equipment, including the firearms, are checked for compliance with the rules by a panel of judges before the start of the competition. It is forbidden to change the shotgun or its components during the series. It is not allowed to use any additional elements that improve the shooting conditions: telescopic sight, illumination, etc. Ammunition is allowed to be used according to the declared parameters and in this connection a program of verification of the established norms is carried out.
Officials
The shooting competitions are supervised by qualified members of the judging panel. They are responsible for safety at the shooting grounds.
Judges' duties include:
- Monitor participants' compliance with the rules and proper setup of the shooting areas;
- Make the final decision on penalties for violators;
- Consider possible team protests;
- Provide counseling regarding prevailing situations.
The chief referee, who is appointed by the tournament organizing committee, heads the panel of referees and has comprehensive knowledge in the field of bench shooting and smoothbore weapons. The chief referee instructs his deputy and the chief referee of the competition in accordance with the technical rules for general safety.
Consequences of violating the rules
If a contestant has committed any infringement, the Chief Referee decides to apply a penalty in the form of a yellow card with an entry in the game log. A more severe measure of influence on the athlete may be a penalty sanction (deduction of targets from the series) or disqualification for a period, which is decided by the panel of judges.
Stand shooting, as a kind of sporting competition, has gained enviable popularity in Russia, especially among hunters. But in addition to practice, one should not forget about theory, because in every game the established rules must be observed.
